Android Creates History: Shipped Over 1 Billion Devices Worldwide in 2014

If Apple managed to create history with its iPhone sales in Q1, Google’s Android, backed by its truly amazing features, witnessed a quantum jump last year. The search engine giant managed to sell 1,000,000,000 Android devices in 2014.


A recent report by Strategy Analytic informed that Android shipped 1,042.7 billion smartphones, which was almost 81 percent of the all smartphones shipped in 2014. The total Android shipments in 2013 constituted 2013 million units.


As per the analytics firm, global smartphones shipment touched a record of 1.3 billion units in 2014 making it the first ever smartphone operating system to sell 1 billion units in a single year.


Apple clinched the second spot as it shipped 192.7 million smartphones worldwide in 2014. And it also recently sold its billionth device. Plus, it had the most profitable quarter in the history of any company.


On the third place we have Microsoft, who shipped 38.8 million smartphones. As expected, BlackBerry did not make it to the list, as it focuses on other categories, with 9.3 million units sold.
