Google Acquires Odysee App from Nimbuz Inc.

Close on the heels of acquiring app maker ‘Launchpad Toys’ last week, Google has yet again stepped forward to acquire its second app maker this month Odysee – a backup and sharing app for photos and videos. The announcement of the acquisition was made on Odysee’s website.

Odysee was available on Android and iOS previously. The app provides automatic photo/video backup from mobile devices to personal computers, besides other sharing features. It also provides API that helps integrate other apps with the service.

Odysee will be joining Google+ team. Other terms and details of the acquisition are yet to be known. The team’s role in Google is also not yet clear. Most probably, they will be working on improvising the photo service of Google+. The acquisition has led to speculations that Google might separate its photo service from Google+.

The app has been removed from Google Play and App Store and will shut down completely on February 23, as per the company’s information on the website’s homepage . The company won’t be accepting any new users, however, the existing users could access and download their saved photos and videos in archive form even after the shutdown.

Oydsee is a second product of Nimbuz Inc – a company founded by Shiva Jayalagi and Raghavan Menon. The company had raised a seed funding of $761.8K in 2013.
