App to calculate plane crash possibilities

Not just you and me, air travels are a nightmare for many passengers. In fact, several suffer from an ingrained fear that odds are heavily stacked against them. And what if they turn unlucky this time?

Put to rest your air travel apprehensions with ‘Am i going down?’ app. The new iOS app sifts through massive data to help anxious passengers arrive at a possible crash figure. It could roughly be 1 in 4,6000,000 chances.

So cheer up folks. Your end is not near.

How does the app ‘am i going down? work?

Travelers need to enter the flight information, including airline name, plane type and the airports meant for departure and arrival, to predict the likelihood of a crash.

The app’s creator, Nic Johns, informed that the app relies on information collected through the Bureau of Aircraft Accidents Archives, the United States National Transportation Safety Board and the International Civil Aviation Organization for its predictions.

In all, app analyzes more than 10 million routes and takes into account prior accidents to arrive at a tentative crash figure. However, it does not take into account flights that are older than 10 years.

Johns developed the app to help his wife fight the fear of flying. And released the app close to AirAsia Flight 8501 disaster. However Johns says, “the timing was purely a coincidence; the app has been in the works for the last year.”

Nevertheless, as of now Air Asia has been “temporarily removed” from the app. But it may reappear in a future update.
