Microsoft Spruces Up Outlook Apps For iOS and Android

Microsoft has introduced a refreshed version of Outlook Apps for iOS and Android operating systems. The new app will make it easier for users to sort through email, calendar, contacts, file-sharing and more.

The new app is based on Acompli, an app company acquired by Microsoft in December for over $200 million.

The Outlook helps separate mail into two categories – Focused and Other. All your important mails will be part of the Focused inbox. Once you start moving your emails in and out of your Focused inbox, Outlook will be able to figure which type of messages is important for you.

When you swipe left or right, you will come across buttons for archive, move, flag and mark as read/unread. You can personalize the swipe feature, if you really don’t like the default settings, which gives the Outlook app an edge over its competitors. Plus, there are also a ‘Schedule Email’ feature, that could remove your emails from your inbox and return at the time of your choosing.

The new Outlook is also embedded with a predictive search that helps easily find the right e-mails, files and contacts. The People feature in the app helps give you a peep into those contacts that you use often. The biggest plus is that you do not require an e-mail account to use the app. The features work the same across all major e-mail services, be it Microsoft Exchange, Apple AAPL +0.81% iCloud, Office 365, Outlook.com, Gmail, or Yahoo YHOO -0.62%! Mail.

There’s this direct interaction feature between e-mails and the calendar app as well. This lets you through the meeting details and also review the attendance status of invitees. Plus, a Quick RSVP” feature that helps you respond promptly to meetings with ‘Accept,’ ‘Tentative’ or Decline’ without having to open the e-mail.

These are just some of the most defining features of the revised Outlook app. For more information visit: www.forbes.com
