Less Storage after iOS 8 update? Let’s sue Apple

Internet roared after the iOS8 update last year with acute criticisms about the massive download size of the update.

Two individuals from Miami took it to a whole new level by filing a class action suit on Tuesday in the United States District Court in San Francisco. The lawsuit basically claims that Apple misled its users about the size of the iOS 8 update.

The suit spotlights the Apple users with 8 GB and 16 GB devices who are most affected by the bulky iOS 8 download since they lose a considerable fraction of their storage capacity when they upgrade, according to the suit.

“iOS 8 uses an unexpectedly large percentage of the storage capacity on 8 GB and 16 GB iPhones, iPads and iPods,” the lawsuit alleges. Apple, it says, “fails to disclose to consumers that as much as 23.1% of the advertised storage capacity of the Devices will be consumed by iOS 8 and unavailable for consumers when consumers purchase Devices that have iOS 8 installed.”

The iOS 8 update requires almost a whopping 6 GB of storage, which left many users and new buyers struggling to have enough room for apps, photos, music and other files on their devices. This caused a freakout on the internet with significant complaints on Twitter from users who felt they were forced to wipe significant amounts of photos and other files to make room for the update.

With Apple defending similar suits over storage capacity in the past, the likelihood of the suit holding up in the court remains a question.
