Shout app is all set to take the social messaging medium a notch higher. Select any place, it can be your immediate vicinity or any other place and share content with people out there through this app. But for this app to work, the user have to set a shout radius, say from 25 ft. to 25 miles, on their phones to sent shout messages. Just drag your finger across a slider that ranges from 25 ft. to 25 miles, and choose the exact location where you want to sent your shout.
The goal of shout is to help users share information, which they might have not shared otherwise. For instance, with Shout you can post messages that are only visible to people staying in your apartment and not anywhere else. That’s not to say that you cannot share it on a wider canvas. You can share info both privately and publicly, keeping in mind the target audience of your messages.
Shout seem to be based on yet another social app Yik Yak. This app too helps share messages with those in the vicinity. But there’s a major differentiating factor, that makes Shout stand out. Shout encourages accountability as people have to sign up using their phone numbers before posting, while Yik Yak, on the other hand, is an anonymous social app.
“We’re not anonymous – and we don’t want to be – because I think that ultimately hurts the value of the content that can be shared over the course of an app’s life-cycle,” Charlie Mullan Shouts founder informed.
The Shout app still in its work-in-progress stage. It’s still not easy to choose a neighborhood or college campus precisely, because the map only zeros down on a circular radius around your location and not on the exact location. And there’s isn’t pre-populated database either to depend on.
