Twitter has always been a tortoise (read slow) when it came to product changes. But suddenly the micro blogging giant seems to be pulling up its socks.
Does the meteoric rise of messaging apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, and Facebook Messenger anything to do with Twitter’s new launches? Maybe.
Whatever the reason be, the new roll outs are something that Twiterattis are excited about.
And why not? The new feature helps the user to form a private group of their own and launch a conversation with them. In other words, users can communicate with 20 other Twitters users at the same, even if some of these followers are not following each other. Until now, only two Twitter users could communicate with each other.
Group direct messages is said to support services such as “text, photos, links, emoji and Tweets,” according to Twitter.
“When you think about the best international opportunity, there’s a real opportunity for us when we think about our private messaging to strengthen the core of our Twitter product by making it easier for users to move more fluidly between the public conversation that happens everywhere on Twitter and the private conversation between you and a friend or you and a few friends,” Dick Costolo, Twitter’s CEO, said on an earnings call last April.
The social network has rolled out a video capture feature as well for the iOS and Android apps. And you can not only shoot videos, but also edit the footage directly in the Twitter app. One can shoot 30 second long videos, which would appear as thumbnails within your timeline that play when tapped on.
While iOS owners can import videos from their camera roll, Android owners will have to wait sometime before the feature gets added to their platform.
