Apple is reportedly going to kill its cheapest product. The iPod is likely to be discontinued from the Apple product line, making it the second classic iPod to be discontinued in a year. Apparently, the stock of the product has been declining in the Apple stores. This is generally seen when the company is planning to discontinue a particular product from the market.
The low stock has reportedly come with a warning by Apple to employees that stock is likely to run low for a while. Apple fanboys are mourning and reportedly buying the iPod shuffle from ebay at vastly inflated prices.
One of the obvious reasons for discontinuing the iPod shuffle can be competitor products and cannibalization by the iPhone itself. The iPhone is undoubtedly the favorite phone in the United States that gives better sound quality and UX for better listening experience. In midst of that, the tiny shuffle has increasingly lost its value.
While a low supply has been always connected to discontinuity of an Apple product, appleinsider.com suggests that the shortage has been created due to supplier changes. Apple has no plans to axe its cheapest media player.
The iPod Shuffle was unveiled in 2005, and is now on its fourth generation. It is the cheapest and simplest of Apple’s iPod devices — now a category that only includes the iPod Nano and iPod Touch.
The iPod Shuffle has undergone many redesigns and remained a favorite between music lovers for its sleek design and good sound quality.
