While people are reporting a lot of bugs at the moment in android lollipop, let me tell you that the overall package is quite tasty. There are a lot of things that parallels Apple’s iOS 8 and brings the cult Android users extremely close to what Apple fanboys are enjoying at the moment. Set on an open source platform like Android, some might even vote it better than iOS8 anyways.
So, what are the major additions and tweaks Lollipop brings in?
The UI
The UI looks sleek and more compact than Kitkat. There is no obvious on/off text on the toggles this time. It glows sliding it right, which means the toggle is on and vice versa. The UI is brighter and looks more humane. Infact, the app settings menu is totally refreshed and appears peppy. Apparently,Google seems to have parted ways with the dark/grey UI.
Pick up where you left
One of the major additions this year seems to be focused on inter-device experience. Apple did it in iOS 8 and Lollipop does that too. Songs, Photos, apps games–you can just start from where you left with a breeze across multiple devices.
The Camera
4K Video playback on android TV, improved streaming and raw formats such as YUV and Bayer’s RAW have been added. Seems like with Lollipop, Google has laid a lot of emphasis upon putting professional features into the camera app.
Notification Bar-Hide sensitive content
Lollipop allows you to hide sensitive content from appearing on the notification screen. You can also create custom notification configurations to allow limited notifications. Also, when you play your favorite games, you can stop voice calls temporarily with Lollipop.
Multiple log-ins
This is a valuable feature for parents who always break a sweat giving their phones to the kids. You can now create multiple accounts and configure it for numerous users. This can also stop the enterprise looking down upon android tablets as an unreliable OS for corporate usage. Google has also forced the SE Linux security module for all the apps to protect against malware. You can also configure a set of trusted devices with which your android phone will pair, other devices will be denied instantly.
More Battery
You’ll get more juice out of your device with Lollipop. The OS extends the life of your device by up to 90 minutes. It also shows estimated time needed for charging and various other matrices.
Easy Sync
With easy tap and go, you can sync your android device with older ones with ease. The feature also allows you to sync your apps from old to new devices with a tap.
There are various other minor upgradations across all features but these 7 emerge as the most important ones. Overall, Lollipop ventures into all the fundamental features and does it right. The update is likely to make android more relevant, not only to the generic masses but other user sections as well.
