Ola, via its in-app Ola money wallet, will be offering cashless rides or cashless payment solutions on auto rickshaw and Kaali-Peeli taxi bookings.
The company, in a press statement, announced that cashless rides on auto rickshaws will be available in Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Delhi and Bangalore, while the Kaali-Peeli taxi service will be limited to the Mumbai city.
Ola claims to have over 40,000 autos and kaali-peeli taxis registered from all over the country on the Ola app.
Customers who’ve hired the Ola auto rickshaw services and wish to pay the services via the in-app Ola wallet will need to appraise the driver of the payment mode. Once the passenger reaches the desired destination, the driver will enter the fare displayed on the meter, along with a four-digit OTP that the customer would receive on the phone via SMS. Once this done, the Ola payment is automatically deducted from the customers’ accounts. Drivers, on the other hand, can easily withdraw their payments from their prepaid ATM cards that would be linked to their Ola account.
Talking about the revolutionary digital payment mode Pallav Singh, Vice President, Operations at Ola said, “With cashless rides for autos and Kaali-Peelis now, the experience for both customers and drivers becomes seamless. We believe digital payments will shape the future of personal transportation in India.”
Ola recently acquired cab aggregator TaxiForSure for $200 million. The move will supposedly complement its strengths for Ola works with drivers while TaxiForSure is apparently more organized and works with the cab operators.
