Insights of New Office 2016 and Skype for Business

On Monday morning, Microsoft rolled out the technical previews of Office 2016 and Skype for business.


Microsoft had already announced the release of next version of office called Office 2016 in second half of 2015. After that, this is another update by the company revealing a few more technical details of Next Office Version. To accompany this, Microsoft also announced the technical previews of Skype for business client in replacement of Lync – Microsoft’s primary communication tool for businesses.


Microsoft aims to test the software by putting it in front of IT professionals and developers. To support this aim, the software maker made Office 2016 available for commercial Office 365 customers to try out the software before it goes for official release.


According to Microsoft, current version of Office lacks some important features. The company promises to deliver complete features with its final product in second half of the year 2015. Till then, monthly updates will be delivered as the testing cycle goes on.


Some technical improvements of Office 2016 include the expansion of data loss protection in Word, Excel and Powerpoint, click-to-run deployment features allowing traffic management across the network, updates and activation management.


Meanwhile, Skype for Business will be roll out in coming April for Lync Customers. It will be shipped with new server and updated services creating more interest among Lync customers – making them curious for upgrade. You can sign up for Skype preview at Microsoft’s Evaluation Site.
