For anyone who’s tired of holding their Nintendo Switch Lite during marathon sessions of Link’s Awakening, 8BitDo has announced a new controller that is designed with 2D gaming and ultra-portability in mind, yet it retains all the core Switch buttons.
The gamepad connects over Bluetooth and features two D-pads instead of thumbsticks, which probably makes it less than desirable for playing 3D titles, but ideal for Super Mario Maker 2 along with the NES and SNES games that are available on the Switch. The D-pads are accompanied by more than a dozen other controls, not least of which being the obligatory A, B, X, and Y buttons, as well as right and left shoulder bumpers.
It’s probably worth noting that although the controller is designed to be compact, some folks may question the idea of lugging a separate controller around with their Switch Lite. The console is already designed for portable gaming with integrated controls and it doesn’t have a built-in kickstand to support the use of an external controller. So for gaming on the go, the device will have to be propped up against something or played flat down on a table with a kinked neck.
If that doesn’t have you deterred, or you just want to use the cute controllers with your original Switch 8BitDo’s latest creation is available to be pre-ordered on Amazon for $24.99 and it ships on October 30. Units are being made in the same yellow and turquoise colors as the Switch Lite. For folks who don’t own a Switch Lite but still find the controller appealing for gaming on other platforms, it will also work with devices running Windows, macOS and Android, but not iOS, like many of the company’s other designs.
Hey, Twitch streamers. You know what your microphone needs? Emotes. And before you wonder just where the hell you might find a microphone that displays emotes, Razer has you covered with its latest product announcement.
Known as the “Siren Emote,” the microphone features an 8-bit LED display that’s positioned on the back so it’s facing your camera and your viewing audience. The device can display more than 100 static or animated preset emoticons in an 8×8 grid and supports the ability to upload your own 8-bit designs through an editor in the Razer Streamer Companion App.
The Companion App also lets you configure different triggers so certain emotes are displayed when specific events happen. For instance, the mic could display a smiley face when you gain a new follower, a heart icon when you receive a like, and perhaps a dollar sign when someone donates to your channel. And if the whole idea of having your microphone display emotes is a huge turn off, you’re in luck: the device can also show a puke symbol.
Razer notes that the Siren Emote packs quality hardware for professional streamers who can expect “crystal-clear” vocals on the microphone thanks to a hyper-cardioid pickup pattern that captures subtle nuances in voice. The mic reportedly features a pattern that is tighter and more focused than a regular cardioid pattern to help reduce background noise, while a built-in shock mount helps eliminate noise from vibrations and bumping into the mic. It’s also outfitted with an interchangeable gooseneck that allows the mic to be positioned where it’s needed.
No setup is required. The Siren Emote is plug-and-play compatible with PCs so you get going right out of the box. The Razer Streamer Companion App is currently compatible with Twitch, Streamlabs, Xsplit, and Mixer. Units can be ordered now for $180 and will be available in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Many consumer SSDs claim to support encryption and BitLocker believed them. But, as we learned last year, those drives often weren’t securely encrypting files. Microsoft just changed Windows 10 to stop trusting those sketchy SSDs and default to software encryption.
In summary, solid-state drives and other hard drives can claim to be “self-encrypting.” If they do, BitLocker wouldn’t perform any encryption, even if you enabled BitLocker manually. In theory, that was good: The drive could perform the encryption itself at the firmware level, speeding up the process, reducing CPU usage, and maybe saving some power. In reality, it was bad: Many drives had empty master passwords and other horrendous security failures. We learned consumer SSDs can’t be trusted to implement encryption.
Now, Microsoft has changed things. By default, BitLocker will ignore drives that claim to be self-encrypting and do the encryption work in software. Even if you have a drive that claims to support encryption, BitLocker won’t believe it.
This change arrived in Windows 10’s KB4516071 update, released on September 24, 2019. It was spotted by SwiftOnSecurity on Twitter:
Microsoft gives up on SSD manufacturers: Windows will no longer trust drives that say they can encrypt themselves, BitLocker will default to CPU-accelerated AES encryption instead. This is after an exposé on broad issues with firmware-powered encryption.https://t.co/6B357jzv46 pic.twitter.com/fP7F9BGzdD

Existing systems with BitLocker won’t be automatically migrated and will continue using hardware encryption if they were originally set up that way. If you already have BitLocker encryption enabled on your system, you must decrypt the drive and then encrypt it once again to ensure BitLocker is using software encryption rather than hardware encryption. This Microsoft security bulletin includes a command you can use to check whether your system is using hardware or software-based encryption.
As SwiftOnSecurity notes, modern CPUs can handle performing these actions in software and you shouldn’t see a noticeable slowdown when BitLocker switches to software-based encryption.

When writing papers, you need to generate a detailed and accurate list of all the sources you’ve cited in your paper. With Google Docs, you can easily find and then add citations to all of your research papers.
Fire up your browser, head over to Google Docs, and open up a document. At the bottom of the right side, click the “Explore” icon to open up a panel on the right.
Alternatively, press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+I on Windows/Chrome OS or Cmd+Option+Shift+I on macOS to open it using the keyboard shortcut.

If Explore isn’t able to find anything relatable in your document, type what you’re looking for in the search bar and hit the “Enter” key to search the web manually.
You’ve gone to the pumpkin patch to choose the perfect shape and size for your carving extravaganza, but is this the same type of pumpkin you’d use for baking?
There is, in fact, a difference between a pumpkin you carve and a pumpkin you can eat. Learn all about what sets these two types of winter squash apart, and whether or not you can use them interchangeably.
Carving pumpkins are used to create fun or scary jack-o’-lanterns. They have a much thinner outer shell and less flesh on the inside. That makes them easier to carve and create all sorts of fun and spooky designs.
You’ll also notice that they are stringier than pie pumpkins and contain more water, which makes them less ideal for creating sweet treats. So pick the most giant pumpkin you can find and get your carving tools out because Halloween is almost here!
Pie pumpkins are used for cooking or baking and are also called sugar pumpkins. They are more petite and are often used to decorate or paint rather than carve. Although they make adorable front porch décor, they are best when roasted in the oven and baked into your favorite fall desserts.
You can find sugar pumpkins at the supermarket or a farmer’s market stand. They have more flesh, aren’t as stringy as carving pumpkins, and contain less water, giving them a sweeter and more delightful flavor.
So if you have baking plans, grab yourself a few sugar pumpkins and preheat that oven. Roasting a pumpkin can be done in just a few simple steps.
By all means, you’re more than welcome to use a big carving pumpkin to roast and puree, but we don’t recommend it. Because the larger pumpkins are full of water, you’ll have to rid all that liquid before creating most dishes.
Carving pumpkins aren’t as high in sugar as pie pumpkins, so they aren’t ideal for all the sweet treats you’ll want to make. The thicker amount of pumpkin meat inside a sugar pumpkin is just what you’ll want and need.

Pull-up bars are a great way to exercise your upper body and core, using only your body weight. Most bars can also be used for a variety of other exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, and dips.
Pull-up bars are a great tool to build strength, but before you decide on one to purchase, you should consider what your needs are.
The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro is an excellent product with three different grip positions—narrow, wide, and neutral. On top of the three kinds of pull-ups that you can do with this product, it is designed so that if you place it on the floor of a doorway, it can be used to support sit-ups, dips, and push-ups, giving you a wide variety of options to get your exercise in.
The Multi-Gym Pro fits in most standard doorways ranging from 26 to 33-inches and can be constructed in a couple of different ways. There are multiple holes in the bars at different lengths, so that even if your molding is larger than usual, you can extend the bar down further into the doorframe to make sure that it will fit properly. The flat padding surface distributes the weight of your body more evenly onto your door’s frame, preventing indentation and markings after long term use that other models with round supports might leave. This also allows the ends of the pull-up bar to double as an extra-wide grip without the need for a weaker, secondary bar.
The Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Pro lets you perform pull-ups from three different grip locations, can be used on the ground for sit-ups or push-ups, and has flat padding to prevent damage to your doorway or molding.
